.:: Silent Auction Rules & Procedures ::.

  1. Register and receive a Buyer ID Number from the Clerk.
The Buyer ID number will offer you anonymity from the other buyers.
  1. Choose your Bulls and place your bids on the designated sheets with the corresponding bull numbers once the sale has started.
The tables are colour coordinated by pen.  Every bull has an individual sheet sorted by pen.  Place your bidder number, price  and initials on the sheet.
  1. Every 10 minutes the Bid Boards will be updated so that you will know where each bull is at and if your bid is still the winning bid.
The minimum bid on the bulls is $2,000.00 for the SuperCross bulls, $3,500.00 for the Purebred Sussex and $3,000.00 for the Half Blood Sussex bulls.
  1. Bidding increments will be a minimum of $50.00.
  1. There will be a $50.00 discount to the top bidder on bulls that achieve a value of more than $2,050.00 for the SuperCross, $3,550.00 for the Sussex, or $3,050.00 for the Half Bloods if you are the first bidder as well as the top bidder.
  1. The sale will commence at approximately 10:30am and will proceed until 11:30 am.  At 11:30 am the sale will continue only if there has been a bid in the last five minutes.  Once five minutes lapses, after 11:30am, with no bids, then the sale will end. Once the sale is over, please see the Clerk for your invoices.

Quantum Genetics – DNA Assisted Feedlot Management

The following is a full description of management behind Leptin genotyping.  This excerpt was found on the Quantum Genetics Website, under Feedlots – Leptin .  The web site is located at www.quantumgenetics.ca

Description of QMP (Quantum Management Protocol)
A major factor of this difference is believed to be a result of leptin genotypes.
As cc cattle begin to fatten:

  • Higher leptin concentration is recognized by leptin receptors in the hypothalamus
  • Signals are sent to suppress appetite
  • Metabolism is modulated to draw on stored energy (fat)
  • Fat tissue is regulated to reduce fat deposition

As tt cattle begin to fatten:

  • Circulating leptin concentration is less well-recognized by the leptin receptors
  • The animal continues to act in a hunger mode – eating and storing fat, including intramuscular fat (marbling)
  • Additional fat tissue means more leptin production, but again it is largely unrecognized

The figure below illustrates how leptin genotype is used to identify animals if the tt genotype and on average may fatten 14 + 3 days sooner than animals of the cc genotype and 7 + 3 days sooner than animals of the ct genotype

Choosing a Market Date
An effective beef feedlot system aims to maximize animal productivity while ensuring consistency in meat quality that requires all animals to be harvested at a target body composition. Instrumental in this approach is the ability to identify genetic variation within animal the animal population and the ability to predict the rate of growth through the use of bioinformatics.
